Marine and coastal restoration plan consultation

Scotland has an amazing diversity of marine and coastal life but our natural environment is increasingly under pressure. Restoring marine and coastal habitats and species can help reverse environmental declines and offers unique opportunities for community involvement.

To help accelerate restoration efforts, the Scottish Government is developing Scotland’s first marine and coastal restoration plan. Through this plan they are looking to:

  • support restoration projects as they navigate the rules that help us manage our seas and coasts; and
  • encourage wider involvement and collaboration with other sea users to ensure benefits both to the environment and coastal communities.

The consultation on the draft version of the plan is now open and will remain so until October 19th 2025. The Scottish Government is looking for views from a range of people and organisations to help shape the final plan. To learn more about the plan, and provide feedback, the consultation and associated documents are available here.

Throughout the consultation period there will be a number of in-person events taking place across Scotland. Further information on these is available on the consultation website.
